Booking cheap hotels for family breaks

These countries compete to offer the best prices at their hotels – Goa, in particular, has a reputation to maintain in cheap last minute breaks! However, if you prefer to stay somewhere a little more local then you are spoilt for choice.

The Balearics have some of the cheapest holidays in Europe. Remember Majorca? Now been remodelled as Mallorca, it offers superb family breaks at resorts that were established during the package tourism boom of the 60s and 70s. The sun and Sangria image has been replaced by more refined – but just as affordable – family holidays in low cost but quality, cheap hotels.

The Spanish Costas also offer great value. There are last minute breaks at cheap hotels in Benidorm, Malaga and Alicante, where three nights will still give you change from £30!

Cheap hotels in Greece and the Canaries

The Greek and Canary Islands are great for low cost couple or family holidays. Booking last minute breaks often means “room only” at cheap hotels, but here that’s not a problem, as the surrounding restaurants and bars are very affordable.

Another option is to book family breaks away from the resort centres. If you can do without the nightlife, bars and crowds of young tourists you’ll find cheap hotels are even cheaper outside the resort centres of Corfu, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The same is true of cities like Barcelona and Rome – book hotels away from the city centres, and they’ll be considerably cheaper – and quieter, too.
