Puerto Del Carmen Holidays

Puerto Del Carmen for family breaks

This is the largest of Lanzarote’s resorts – popular for both ex-pat settlements and family holidays. It is one of the few places on the island to feature white, rather than black sand – two miles of it, mainly imported. This, plus the resort’s year-round sunshine, have led to Puerto Del Carmen becoming a leading destination for family holidays and last minute breaks for singles or couples. Many of the residents are ex-pat Brits, so there’s plenty of traditional British fare among the tapas bars.
Although there is a pleasant harbour and picturesque old town area, it’s Puerto Del Carmen’s reputation for cheap all inclusive holidays which are the main draw. It is equally spread between the waterfront hotel complexes, and the shops, bars and restaurants of The Strip – a main road which runs through the middle of the town. This is also the centre for the island’s nightlife, and the pulsating clubs draw night owls from across the island. Book your family breaks at the hotels further out and you’ll get a decent night’s sleep – without missing any of the action.

All inclusive holidays with real appeal

Puerto del Carmen is a total contrast to the rest of Lanzarote. Last minute breaks here mean golden sands, family-friendly British bars and restaurants, peaceful waters and a myriad of activities for visitors of all ages. Activities range from banana boat rides to jet skiing, while Lanzarote’s reputation as “The Windy Island” mean wind surfing and sailing are popular too. Further along the coast, there are some superb surfing beaches.
Older teens and adults can go deep sea fishing and scuba diving, with organised trips to the wrecks littering the coast. On dry land you can enjoy tennis, golf and horse-riding, while boat trips run to neighbouring islands from the harbour.

Seeing the island

Book last minute breaks in Puerto Del Carmen, and you are at the front of the queue when it comes to excursions. Shoppers can go to Teguise Market or the ancient capital of Arrecife, while even all inclusive holidays aren’t complete without a trip to the spectacular Timanfaya National Park – a unique volcanic landscape of lunar proportions, with several attractions centred on the still-smoking peak. Equally awesome is La Cueva de los Verdes, one of the largest volcanic grottoes in the world.

Everywhere you look you will see symbols of Cesar Monrique, the world-renowned sculptor who created the famous Cactus Garden. He is the reason why all inclusive holidays in Puerto Del Carmen centre around low rise developments, rather than tower blocks. A fascinating museum devoted to his life can be found in Arrecife.
