Monastir Holidays
Last minute breaks at Monastir
The 9th century Tunisian town of Monastir is ideal for last minute breaks in the sun, as there are usually some good deals to be had throughout the year. It blends both ancient and modern, with blue Mediterranean seas and all inclusive hotels on one side, and an ancient fortress and traditional souks on the other.
Monastir offers all inclusive holidays to suit all types of tourist, from the seasoned lone traveller wanting a cultural experience, to excited youngsters booking family breaks at beach resorts. We at Future Travel have affordable, last minute breaks at Monastir throughout the year.
What to do on Monastir family holidays
The initial view of the town is breathtaking, with the spectacular Ribat tower and 9th century walls overlooking a buzzing modern beach resort. The marina offers gentle, relaxing strolls shaded by the walls, with numerous cafes and bars to slake your thirst along the way.
Those booking all inclusive holidays on the beach should take time to explore the older areas of the town. It was named after an Islamic order in the 8th century AD, and has many fascinating ancient relics. The fortress contains a unique museum and art gallery.
There are numerous things to see in the surrounding area. Take an excursion to Chott el-Djerid, a giant lake located near the Algerian border, which is spellbindingly beautiful. You can also take a camel ride to a desert oasis at Douz, take an excursion to the coliseum at El Djem, or visit the fascinating cave dwellings at Matmata. Don’t be surprised if some of the views look familiar: the Monastir area has been used as numerous film locations, from Life of Brian to the Star Wars Trilogy.
Last minute breaks out of season
Monastir can be very hot in the summer months. However, families can get great deals on booking out of season, when the beaches are less crowded and the sun less potent for little ones.
Last minute breaks here aren’t complete without a trip to the medina. Huddled under the city walls and well away from the resort complex, it feels like a trip into an Earnest Hemingway novel. Here is where you will haggle for the obligatory stuffed toy camel.
Monastir is well geared up for tourism, with numerous resort hotels offering all inclusive holidays along the coast. This means there is plenty of competition, so prices are cheap. At Future Travel we have family breaks and all inclusive holidays available in Monastir throughout the year – just click to see more.
