Malaga Holidays

Malaga for last minute holidays

The lively resort of Malaga is known as the gateway to the Costa del Sol. It is also the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, and although people usually book last minute breaks to lounge on the beach, it has a fascinating number of ancient buildings and museums to explore.
Malaga bristles with shops and restaurants, especially in the Calle Larios district. Seafood can be found everywhere, and there are plenty of pubs, clubs and live entertainment venues. The resort is ideal for family holidays, with attractive promenades lined with shops and restaurants, sandy beaches and a range of water sports.  Whether you book self-catering last minute breaks or all inclusive holidays, Malaga has something for everyone.

Family breaks in Malaga

The Playa Caleta is Malaga’s main beach. It is clean, with plenty of facilities and within easy reach of the town centre. However, young families may prefer to head towards Playa de la Malagueta. This long golden beach is bordered by the Pablo Ruiz Picasso promenade and is lined with bars and restaurants.
Many people take family breaks in Malaga at the beginning of August. This is when the town’s annual fiesta takes place. With over 3 million visitors, it’s a non-stop carnival party. However, if you can make do without the lights, garlands and fireworks there are some excellent deals on family holidays at other times of the year.
If you enjoy sailing, book last minute breaks near the Caleta de Velez marina. The largest recreational port in the eastern Costa del Sol, from here you can enjoy sailing and other watersports. La Vinuela Lake, close by, has a huge number of non-motorised activities like swimming, wind surfing and canoeing.

Cultural breaks in Malaga

Malaga isn’t all sun and sand; with thousands of years of settlement, the town bristles with history and architecture and has a heavy Moorish influence. The 11th century La Alcazaba fortress contains an archaeological museum, with relics from the nearby Neolithic settlement. The nearby Moorish castle is now a state hotel, or parador.
Malaga has several parks and gardens worthy of a visit. For a change from the beach, visit the stunning Calle Alameda and Jardines de la Concepcion.
Pablo Picasso was born in this city, and family holidays aren’t complete without a visit to the Picasso Museum. Housed in a beautiful old palace, it showcases many of his works and is a popular tourist attraction. Picasso’s birthplace, at Plaza Merced, and the16th century Museum of Fine Arts, next to the magnificent Renaissance cathedral, shows more of Picasso’s works.
We at Future Travel have low cost last minute breaks at Malaga throughout the year, for singles, couples and families.
