Lagos Holidays
Great last minute breaks to Lagos
The ancient port of Lagos, on the Algarve, is one of the most popular resorts in Portugal. It offers far more than just family holidays on the beach. Book last minute breaks in Lagos and you discover a world of culture and history, with stunning scenery, a vibrant nightlife and some fantastic shops and restaurants.
Lagos has last minute breaks to suit every budget. Along the beaches are numerous purpose built resorts offering self-catering and all inclusive holidays around beaches that range from broad stretches of endless sand, to hideaway coves and inlets. The emphasis is on relaxation, but if you enjoy active family breaks there are plenty of activities to choose from, ranging from scuba diving to microlight flights. The resort is very popular with golfers, with several courses; Penina is often used for the Portuguese Open.
Entertainment in Lagos
Lagos is well furnished with shops and restaurants. As well as local produce you can buy local crafts, jewellery and wines, and there is a popular on-going flea market in the town centre. Family holidays invariably include a few meals out, and here you are spoilt for choice – especially if you enjoy seafood. The marina is particularly well stocked with fish restaurants.
At night, the centre of Lagos comes alive with street musicians and entertainers, while the mix of bars and nightclubs ensure the town is always lively – but never rowdy.
Family holidays with plenty for everyone
All inclusive holidays in the Algarve mean lazing on the beach – and Lagos has plenty to choose from. Among the most popular are Batata, Estudantes, Homers, Pinhão, Dona Ana, Luz, Praia do Camilo and Meia Praia. The latter is the town’s water sports centre, boasting wind surfing, kite-sailing, diving and other sports, and there’s a 4 km stretch of sandy beach to unwind on afterwards. A little way inland is Barragem de Bravura reservoir, a haven for wildlife and a well known beauty spot.
The Ponta da Piedade promontory dominates the shoreline, and is a major draw for visitors. It boasts stunning rock formations, caverns and crystal clear seas within the shelter of Lagos Bay.
Family breaks aren’t complete without a bit of sightseeing. Customs House, the magnificent church of Igreja de Santo Antonio and the town museum are all worth leaving the beach for.
