The chic, purpose-built Turkish resort of Icmeler is a popular destination for couples and family holidays from the UK. People can sit at the chic waterfront bars, watching the luxury yachts come into the bay, or explore the scenic forests and hills of the interior.

Most people take all inclusive holidays here because of the seclusion, clean beach and attractive, high quality hotels and apartments – which feature planted gardens to soften the lines of the low rise blocks. Although the beach is mainly shingle it is raked over daily, and water sports like sailing, windsurfing and jet skiing are kept separate from the swimming areas, ideal for those on family holidays too. 

The town has a magnificent mountain backdrop that is ideal for hiking or mountain biking, and there are plenty of excursions for those who want to explore further afield. These include Cleopatra’s Isle, the therapeutic springs and waterfalls of Pamukkale, and the archaeological remains of Ephesus.

Shopping and dining in Icmeler

Family breaks aren’t complete without some last-minute souvenir hunting. The town has a weekly market, and there is a shopping mall where you can buy most essentials. However, most people take a dolmus (local taxi) and head for the shopping malls and covered bazaar of nearby Marmaris for their main shopping.

Icmeler has a good selection of restaurants serving predominantly Turkish dishes such as seafood kebabs and Guvec, a local stew cooked in a clay pot. There are plenty of bars serving up live traditional music along with the raki, the traditional aniseed liquor of the region, as well as karaoke bars and a few discos. Icmeler is popular for family breaks owing to its lack of nightclub atmosphere, but you only need to book a dolmus to Marmaris and you can party all night, if you want to.
