El Gouna Holidays
Jet setting on all inclusive holidays to El Gouna
The luxurious Egyptian resort of El Gouna is also called the 'Venice of the Red Sea', a reference to its shimmering network of lagoons and modern, but striking architecture.
El Gouna’s year-round sunshine makes it an excellent choice for out-of-season all inclusive holidays. Just 14 miles from Hurghada Airport, it is very different from other Red Sea resorts. Backed by majestic mountains, the shoreline is a fantasy of lagoons, islands and luxury villas designed by award-winning architects. Chic, but always friendly, El Gouna has a wide choice of shops selling traditional crafts and local goods, as well as a cosmopolitan mix of branded stores along the seafront.
All inclusive holidays versus self-catering breaks
The majority of last minute breaks are booked at the hotels, which offer an international cuisine to suit all palates. There are also apartment complexes and villas for larger groups. If you have booked last minute breaks on a room-only basis, the town has a wide cosmopolitan mix of restaurants. Being a Muslim country, not all serve alcohol, but many do and the service is family-friendly.
The two main tourist districts are Kafr El Gouna and the Abu Tig Marina. Both have a good mix of nightclubs, bistros and trendy bars. In the evenings, people migrate to the marina bistros to enjoy the seafood buffets and laidback al fresco dining experience, or go to the barbeque beach parties and live music events hosted by the chic Mangroovy Beach club.
Active family breaks in El Gouna
The best beaches are reached by ferry, which set off at regular intervals. There is an excellent range of activities both on and offshore, including snorkelling, scuba diving, wind- and kite-surfing and, of course, swimming. The beaches are ideal for family breaks with young children, who can play in the sand, paddle safely in the shallows, or ride on a pedalo. More advanced swimmers can explore the wonders of the coral reefs with the diving school instructors.
All inclusive holidays in the hotels invariably come with a range of excursions to the Pyramids, Nile and Valley of the Kings. Quad-biking adventures and 4 X 4 desert safaris are also popular, or you can explore the region on 4 legs and go horse-riding. Alternatively, you can play golf at the resort’s international 18 hole course, or take the kids go-karting.
We at Future Travel recommend El Gouna for anyone looking for action-packed family holidays or last minute breaks in a unique location. Its cosmopolitan beaches and range of activities make it equally popular with couples and single travellers, too.
