Costa de la Luz Holidays
Costa de la Luz for all inclusive holidays
The Costa de la Luz, or Coast of Light, is in Western Andalucía, between Portugal and the Costa del Sol. Relatively undeveloped, it boasts wide golden beaches and a mild climate making it a popular choice for couples, singles and family holidays. It also finds favour with water sports enthusiasts, who book last minute breaks in the south for the superb Atlantic surfing conditions.
Costa de la Luz is divided into two provinces – Huelva and Cadiz. Both are popular for singles, couples and family breaks whether self catering or all inclusive holidays. Cadiz boasts a dramatic coastline, rocky coves and surfing beaches. Huelva features sheltered golden sands, family resorts and nature reserves. Both provinces are studded with national parks.
Last minute breaks in Huelva Province
Huelva is the westernmost province of the Costa de la Luz, running from the Portuguese border to the Donaña national park, on the River Guadalquivir. Popular for family holidays, it offers a mixture of traditional fishing villages and modern purpose built resorts. All inclusive holidays are taken in low-rise developments, and there are also villas and boutique hotels in towns like picturesque Ayamonte.
With a low density of tourist traffic, it is possible to book last minute breaks at the height of summer and find virgin beaches. The Playa de Castilla, on the borders of the National Park, is a 22 km stretch of sand that is only accessible on foot. Nearby, La Antilla and El Rompido are pretty villages with magnificent beaches, ideal for family breaks.
Punta Umbría is the largest resort in Costa de la Luz. Together with its smaller neighbour, Isla Cristina, it boasts superb beaches and restaurants, and has a wetland nature reserve. Take all inclusive holidays in the modern resorts of Mazagón and Matalascañas, and you have a full range of water sports, plus access to Donaña national park.
Holidays in the Cadiz Province
Cadiz offers rugged, spectacular scenery, sheltered rocky coves and hidden beaches. Sanlucar de Barrameda boasts golden sands and magnificent views of the River Guadalquivir. After that come numerous traditional fishing resorts like Chipiona, Rota, and Santa Maria, with small sandy coves and seafood restaurants.
The city of Cadiz combines history and culture with miles of golden beaches and the Cadiz national park. Sancti Petri and Barbate have rugged cliffs, rocky coves and scenic forests, while Conil de la Frontera and Caños de Meca are popular with trendy young Europeans.
Tarifa is one of the top windsurfing resorts in Europe. The best surfing beaches are at Playa Los Lances and Playa Valdevaqueros. Further along are some superb diving beaches.
We at Future Travel thoroughly recommend our last minute breaks and all inclusive holidays in Costa de la Luz for anyone looking for exciting holidays in spectacular, unspoilt surroundings.
