Corralejo Holidays
Last minute breaks to Corralejo
This pretty resort, in the north of Fuerteventura, is fast becoming a popular option for low key family holidays in the Canaries. However, it’s equally suited to singles and couples, who book last minute breaks to explore the pretty harbour and craft stalls of the market, or cycle the trails of the national park.
Corralejo is a popular excursion for visitors taking all inclusive holidays on other islands, as well - the Corralejo Natural Park is a protected area where you can walk and cycle the interior – or head for the dunes and beaches. Those bordering the national park offer some of the best surfing in the Canaries.
Family breaks at Corralejo
There are numerous beach opportunities, including hidden coves and inlets that are ideal for family holidays, without the crowds that beaches like Sotavento de Jania attract. Corralejo is a largely unspoilt fishing town, and there are fine sandy beaches within walking distance of the popular harbour district. However, these can attract a lot of visitors from Lanzarote in the summer months, so if you’ve booked your family holidays here, head for the Avenida Grandes Playas area. Here, you will find sheltered coves and beaches backed by a selection of child-friendly bars and restaurants.
If you enjoy water sports, but lack the confidence to tackle the big waves of Lanzarote, booking last minute breaks in Corralejo offers a large selection of water-based activities in calm, safe waters. Surf, go snorkelling and diving, explore the coast by dinghy or just go for a swim – the beaches near town are safe for children as well as adults. The more intrepid can rent surf boards and make for the dunes of the national park.
Things to see and do
This isn’t the place for all-inclusive holidays in purpose-built complexes. Hotels are small and intimate, and self-catering apartments plentiful. People tend to congregate around the harbour bars and restaurants, or head towards the picturesque town centre to shop for gifts at the stalls and shops.
To explore the region fully, hire a bicycle – there are some wonderful hidden gems purpose built for family holidays in Corralejo. However, there are plenty of things to do in town, as well – Mum can buy fresh fish from the harbour and go shopping at the Atlantico Shopping centre, while dad and the kids take off to the water park. The promenade makes for a picturesque stroll before dinner, or you can book an evening cruise from the harbour and dine on board. Other activities include jeep safaris, glass-bottomed boat trips and motorcycle tours.
We at Future Travel can’t recommend our family breaks and last minute holidays in Corralejo highly enough – why not take a look at what’s on offer?
