Cala d'Or Holidays

Last minute holidays to Cala d’Or

Cala d'Or is a pretty Majorcan resort popular for singles, couples and family holidays.  A cala is a rocky cove, unique to this area. Once picturesque retreats, they have become popular holiday resorts - Cala d’Or is one of the liveliest.
This village was discovered in the 1930s, by a group of artists who were drawn to its charm and beauty and settled in picturesque cottages round the harbour. Today, as then, Cala d'Or is a chic and fashionable resort, with a luxurious marina and sophisticated restaurants and shops.
Cala d’Or has several lively beaches, the largest being Cala Gran, which has a range of water sports. Most beaches are only accessible via a steep slope or flight of steps, but once there you are rewarded with deep sandy inlets offering safe, shallow bathing.

Where to take all inclusive holidays in Cala d'Or

Many all inclusive holidays are taken in purpose-built complexes offering a range of activities as well as access to the beaches below. Some specifically cater for family breaks, while others are more geared towards adults only. There are also smaller boutique hotels, apartments and villas – but be aware that the latter are often a steep climb from the beach.
All inclusive holidays in the holiday villages include terraced swimming pools, fitness centres, bars, restaurants, shops and children’s clubs.  Visitors can go scuba diving and horse-riding, book tennis lessons or go on excursions and boat trips.

Shops and restaurants

For those booking last minute breaks on a self-catering basis, Cala d’Or bristles with shops, bars and restaurants. The town centre shops are upmarket and trendy, with designer boutiques, galleries and craft shops. There is a large supermarket on the outskirts, and plenty of cafes and restaurants offering low priced meals to holiday makers.
There are also a number of markets in the area, the best and largest being at Felanitx and Inca.

Things to do on family breaks in Cala d’Or

Cala d'Or has 5 sandy beaches, all offering clear shallow water and safe bathing. The larger ones have a full range of water sports, as well as shops, cafes and bars. There is a road train connecting Cala d'Or with the beaches of Cala Barca, Cala Mondrago, Porto Petro and Cala Egos.
For those wanting to explore the island, the national parks of Cala Mondrago and Cabrera (an island reached from the picturesque Sa Colonia harbour) are within easy reach. Cala Figuera is a quaint fishing village with an interesting old watchtower and lighthouse.
We at Future Travel recommend our last minute breaks in Cala d'Or for anyone wanting action packed family holidays in a scenic location.
