Bulgaria, the Low Cost Beach Holiday
Ten years ago the reason for travelling to Bulgaria was simply that it was a cheap beach holiday. However these days Bulgaria boasts designer resorts and a wealth of visitors.
The sea isn’t as salty as the Mediterranean and is relatively safe with little tide and surf which is great if you have small children. The climate is also great for young ones as it is always sunny, but not scorching like the Med. Alcohol is still cheap here but luckily most of the resorts have not yet been discovered by beer swilling Brits. The beaches of Varna at the resort Golden Sands are more geared towards young adults and teenagers with a vibrant nightlife. Those with younger children will find family holidays in the south at resorts such as Sunny Beach around Burgas more appealing.
From May to October seaside temperatures go above 20°C and stay in the late 20s for most of June to August. Late June is very popular with young families while September attracts more elderly travellers.

At the busy resorts of Bourgas and Varna there are plenty of hotels to choose from which offer a great selection of all inclusive holidays in Bulgaria.
Immediately surrounding the resorts are some breathtaking mountain ranges in Bulgaria that are worth visiting. You can hike, check out the wildlife and visit monasteries. There is even cheap winter skiing available at Borovets and Pamporovo for beginners to intermediate skiers. Most visitors stay along the coast of the Black Sea where there are plenty of resorts and coastal towns to visit.
Varna is an interesting city with stretching promenades and an old fashioned elegance through which you can walk from parkland to sea. There are roman baths to visit and an impressive archaeological museum to find out about the region’s history.
Set in woodlands and with access to around 3km of sandy beaches the Golden Sands is a popular resort. At night there are plenty of shows and there is a vibrant fairground atmosphere. There are plenty of shows to see, portrait artists, shooting galleries and stalls to visit.
Sunny Beach resort boasts 7km of beaches and people tend to keep to their hotel complexes although they offer much of the same as Golden Sands.
