Bavaro Holidays
Holidays to Bavaro
Bavaro is a popular tourist resort in the Punta Cana region of the Dominican Republic, on the island of Hispaniola. Quiet and unspoilt, with miles of beautiful beaches and year-round sunshine, it is a popular choice for family breaks in the Caribbean.
Much quieter than the neighbouring resort of Punta Cana, all inclusive holidays in Bavaro offer a unique, traditional Dominican experience. A few minutes drive from the resort, and you are deep in the lush, stunning Dominican countryside. Book last minute breaks here, and you feel like you’ve got the whole island to yourself – yet just a few minutes away are the shops and clubs of Punta Cana.
Family holidays in Bavaro
Bavaro has an enviable 10 km stretch of white, sandy beaches. The most popular are Uvero Alto, Macao, La Vacama and Roco Ki. Most last minute breaks here are booked as all inclusive holidays at low rise hotels and holiday villages.
The resort was originally built to house workers at the nearby Punta Cana, and accommodation is centred around wooden lodges nestling on palm fringed beaches. Inside, the quality is high. All inclusive holidays at the larger hotels come complete with health clubs, spas, Jacuzzis, golf courses and a host of other luxuries. However, there are also discreet, smaller hotels and apartment complexes with direct access to the beach.
The seclusion and laid-back atmosphere of Bavaro make it as popular with couples as it is with families, and it’s a popular spot for honeymooners. Weddings on the beach are a regular occurrence.
Active family holidays
Bavaro has one of the loveliest coasts in the Caribbean, and most people are content just to laze on the beach. However, if you like your last minute breaks a bit livelier; there are plenty of things to do. Water sports include parasailing, boating and windsurfing. Bavaro is renowned for its scuba diving facilities, with several diving schools and 22 official dive spots. Dry activities include aerobics, volleyball, horse riding and hiking.
Bavaro is also popular with older couples owing to the large number of golf resorts. There are at least 12 professional courses in the area.
Dining and entertainment
The cuisine is predominantly local and of very high quality, with plenty of seafood and fresh fruit. Entertainment is based around the Vegas style hotel cabaret shows, or local entertainment in the surrounding bars. Latin music and dance features heavily in the local culture.
