Most of the modern, fashionable resorts grew from little fishing villages. In many cases development spread away from the town, so it is still possible to wander narrow cobbled streets of whitewashed cottages, ancient churches and almond groves.

The Algarve comprises 100 miles of spectacular coastline, stretching from Cape St. Vincent to Vila Real de Santo Antonio.
