Albufeira is one of the most popular places for last minute holidays on the Algarve. The town has delightful cobbled streets and alleyways to explore, and traditional shops selling local produce. Stock up on wine, olives, bread and fruit before heading to one of the beaches.  The nearest is a short walk through the beach tunnel, and practically deserted out of season. 
At nearby Praia dos Barcos you can see fishermen mending their nets next to gaily painted fishing boats; just one of many fishing villages sheltering under high cliffs next to sandy coves.

When booking all inclusive breaks to Albufeira, it’s important you check how accessible the beach is. All inclusive holidays in family resorts often have private beaches and are close to the sea. However, the Algarve is very rocky, and a hotel that says “1/2 a km from the sea” could well mean a vertical drop! For this reason, young families and the elderly are better off booking all inclusive holidays at beach resorts, or near the Beach Tunnel in town.

Albufeira was founded in 4 AD, and features numerous historical monuments, including Roman bridges, a Moorish castle and several beautiful churches. Near the beach, these give way to chic restaurants, bars and craft shops.
In Albufeira there are numerous restaurants and bars, offering all you could want in the way of Portuguese wine and cuisine. The beach is warm throughout the year, with off-season family breaks cheap, uncrowded and kinder to children’s delicate skin.
