When it comes to activities then a day trip to Central Park is a must.  This stunningly landscaped park dates back to the nineteenth century and you’ll find entertainment for all ages here.  The best activity is simply to find a park bench and people watch. 
In winter the kids can ice skate with the most awe inspiring backdrop.  There is a beautifully restored carousel to ride, and there are bikes and roller blades to hire so the children can get around the six mile perimeter and take in the sights.  The boating lake is a treat and there is a lovely café overlooking the lake for adults to unwind.  There are fabulous playgrounds all along the park with water hydrants for the hot summer months.  You might want to take a ride on a horse drawn carriage.

A visit to the Statue of Liberty is a memorable day trip as is a trip to the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building for an amazing view.  One of the best museums for children is the Natural History Museum which is full of stuffed beasties and creatures.
