City Breaks in Madrid

Madrid city breaks

City breaks in Madrid are all about culture and excitement. The Spanish capital since 1562, it boasts museums, Renaissance artworks, galleries and churches. This is equalled by its modern culture – Madrid is famous for its designer shopping arcades, catwalk fashion shows and cosmopolitan restaurants. If you’ve an interest in haute couture, a city break in Madrid delivers it by the case loads.
Accommodation ranges from chic bohemian apartments to towering modern chain hotels. These days, many people book a city break in a serviced apartment, rather than a hotel, and there are plenty of ways to do this – Madrid is bristling with restaurants, bars and pavement cafes where you can dine. At night, it comes alive with chic lounge bars and all night clubs.  Plus there is always some live entertainment to be had, from opera to rock concerts. We at Future Travel recommend city breaks in Madrid for anyone who likes their culture well mixed.

Cultural city breaks in Madrid

Many city breaks are centred on the treasures of the Museum Mile, which is lined with museums and art galleries housed in spectacular classical buildings. If you’ve only booked a short city break, then make for the Museo del Prado, Madrid’s most famous art gallery, housing Renaissance and other classical works. Other galleries include the private collection at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemiza, and the modern Museo de Arte Reina Sofia, which is full of works by the likes of Picasso and Dali.

If you’ve centred your city break on the art and culture of Madrid, book accommodation in the Centro, Austrias or Sol districts. You will be in the centre of Old Madrid, surrounded by historic streets, squares and palaces.  Here, you will be a short distance from sights like the beautiful frescoes of the San Antonio Hermitage, and the baroque splendour of the Royal Palace.

Modern city breaks in Madrid

Madrid is a city that shops by day and parties by night. If it’s nightlife you’re after, stay in the Huerta district, which is full of trendy nightspots and clubs that carry on until daybreak. The Malasaña and Chueca districts make good alternatives, with plenty of trendy bars, restaurants and fashion boutiques to attract the young crowd.
If you’ve taken a city break in Madrid for some haute couture retail therapy, book an exclusive apartment in the stylish Retiro or Salamanca districts. Start the day with a coffee in a Sol café, and then head for the designer emporiums of Salamanca, or the endless stores of the Calle de Serrano.
We at Future Travel recommend our city breaks in Madrid for anyone who is a lover of art, fashion and culture.
