Ideas for the October half term holidays

What do people say when they come home after their annual family holidays? Invariably, it’s “I wish we could have had longer,” or “What a pity we didn’t get to go there” - “there” generally being the resort a few miles up the road. The October half term gives us the perfect opportunity to put this right, with great deals on late family breaks or last minute holidays available across the board.

For many people, taking holidays abroad may seem an unfeasibly expensive notion. But by booking last minute breaks in October, they can get a late summer holiday for scarcely more than they’d spend staying at home.

Who wouldn’t want to start November with a Caribbean tan? Here, it’s summer all the year round, and the October holidays are a great time to book bargain last minute breaks.

There is no “closed season” for all inclusive holidays in Cuban, Jamaican or Trinidadian resorts. The locals know that, these days, people book family holidays all the year round, so they make a real effort to lay on everything they do in the height of the season.
 
Whether it’s reef diving off Bermuda, bird watching in Tobago or salsa dancing in Cuba, you will have a warm welcome - and the beaches to yourself.

However much of a sun worshipper you are, there has to be limits. Go to Hammamet in August, for example, and you’ll quickly realise why the resort is largely given over to the locals – they’re the only ones who can stand the heat and humidity!

This is why we advise those planning family holidays in desert countries to choose the months of May and October, when temperatures and humidity are more pleasant, and bargains on all inclusive holidays are plentiful. Be aware, though, that you’ll need the sun block – temperatures are still way up in the 80s in most areas.

For a destination closer to home, the Canaries are just off the African coast and offer similar temperatures. Larger resorts in the Balearics and Greek Islands stay open, and offer great bargains on last minute holidays. Of course, you could always jet off to Orlando ….
